Competitive obedience is a sport in which handlers and dogs demonstrate their teamwork, communication, and obedience skills through a series of exercises. The purpose of competitive obedience is for the dog to perform a series of exercises with precision and clarity and to execute the handler's commands correctly. The competitions include heeling next to the handler, recalls when called by the handler, retrieving objects, sitting, lying down, or standing upright. The criteria for judging are strict and based on the accuracy of the exercises, the speed of performance, the dog's focus on the handler, and the relationship between the dog and the handler. Competitions are often organized at different levels, where handlers and dogs are tested, allowing them to progress and improve their skills. Titles and awards are given to those who achieve high scores, providing recognition for their efforts and accomplishments. This sport highlights not only the dog's abilities but also strengthens the dog-handler relationship through systematic training, communication, and understanding. It is a sport conducted at a global level, offering a beautiful outlet for both dogs and people, showcasing the dog's abilities and the dedication of the handler. All types of Belgian Shepherd dogs have a significant presence in competitive obedience. Obedience came to Greece with the recommendation of KOBEPE in July 2019 by the German athlete and steward Alexandra Finke, and the first seminar introducing the sport was held in Corinth. After a two-year delay due to the pandemic, the first qualifying rounds were held by KOBEPE. Since then, competitions have been held every year, where the best represent Greece at the FMBB World Championship.
